It’s hard to pinpoint exactly the genesis of Make More Monie as it all came together over time, but I can certainly give some credit to an acquaintance of mine who, years ago, upon listening to me lament the fact that I was unable to afford Toronto real estate asked, “Why don’t you just make more money?”
His response has stuck with me to this day. Despite being a realist, I never looked at the world the way I have since I first heard those words. In some ways, I was like many I personally know — along with others I think I recognize out there — resigned to mediocrity and accepting of lesser-than-ideal circumstances.
In addition to these people, we all know individuals that habitually express pessimistic views of the world; that use their own situation as proof that the deck is stacked against them. Further to this, there are those unfortunates on the street that are clearly in dire straits for any number of reasons, including their own poor choices. Having said that, I know that circumstance can also play a part in these scenarios — self-inflicted or not — as I came very close to joining their ranks years ago as well. Unforeseen factors see many of us wind up on the outside looking in. Fortunately for me, so far, I’ve managed to avoid that fate.
My acquaintance was different though, and the more I came to know him, the more I came to understand his outlook. He was the first entrepreneur l ever really knew, and I credit him with my current worldview.
I also credit the many ambitious individuals that I’ve been privileged to meet since, who not only speak about the fun they are having with the rewards of their success, but tell me how they came to “make more monie”. Not surprisingly, most of them achieved it via a deliberate, carefully mapped-out plan. The others? Well, not so much. Those individuals have prevailed despite taking the long route; doing it the hard way, so to speak — not that the former had it easy — after many starts, stops, restarts and setbacks.
Regardless of their journey, over and over, I hear stories of positive mental attitudes and solid work ethics, efficient time management and an ability to get along. Another recurring theme, whether heard from entrepreneurs or “company men and women”, was that they had the wherewithal to give an enthusiastic “yes” or an emphatic “no”, when those were the answers needed to requests being made of them.
With the above in mind, wanting to turn the complete mess of my life into a compelling message to the masses via Make More Monie, I decided that as I employed my own plan to succeed in life, I would incorporate it into my manifesto as well. This way, those that are interested in turning their fortunes around can see me committed and trying to do the same in real time. Sound good?
