I saw a social media image posting some time ago of a spare room that had been converted into a home gym by the poster. It came on the heels of an earlier photo posted by this individual, which was of a very long flight of outdoor stairs.
Accompanying the makeshift gym photo was a story about how she had mentioned to others that her home gym was complete, except for a motivational sign. She wrote that she had envisioned something girly like “You go, girl!” or “You can do it!”, but instead she was given one by her daughter that read “NO EXCUSES”, which I thought was pretty funny considering the intimation.
To absolutely no one’s surprise, this photo of the improvised workout area garnered a vast number of comments from her Facebook friends such as “You got this!” and all kinds of applause emojis, etc.
With respect to the photo posting of the outdoor stairs – of which there appears to be at least a hundred of them – she mused that she was “missing the gym, but (had a) good workout this morning”, which resulted in lots of likes and heartfelt emojis, as well as the usual positive commentary about how awesome she is. One of those commenting noted that “Rocky” ran the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art!
It was not lost on me how thirsty it appears she was in relation to this and the other spare room posting, especially considering that her husband replied to the equally-thirsty Rocky-referenced comment, stating that Stallone actually ran the steps rather than take a picture of them. Ouch.
These sorts of posts are omnipresent on social media, as well as those posts of affirmations by those that are “manifesting abundance”, are “proud of the person they are” and apparently, despite “holding a sword in a shaky hand, (they) are a warrior slaying demons and are stronger than even they realize”. Uh, okay.
I’d like to say I cannot count how many times I’ve been forced to cut ties with those that peddle in this drivel, similarly to those that I have culled since discovering they were conspiracy theorists and/or religious zealots, but I can’t, because I actually can – count ‘em, that is – as I never really collected personal social media connections, or friends of any kind like these for that matter, period.
I can also say, especially to anyone wanting to “make more monie”, is that telling yourself and all of your friends ‘n’ followers on social media that “you can and will be great’” without actually feeling ‘n’ believing it – and taking steps to achieve that greatness – will only ever result in the time-wasting, non-productive collecting of colorful emojis and hollow praise.
So, if all you want in life is the feel-good fix that comes from incorporating an eagle in majestic flight as your avatar, or by reciting mantras quietly to yourself or at the top of your lungs in a room full of others scripted by whomever they are that come up with ‘em, by all means have at it. Just remember though, working for something worthwhile requires, well, actually working. I’ve never heard of any war waged ‘n’ won, summit scaled or deep sea dove simply by wishing it into reality. In fact, I’m pretty sure no one has.
Note: When you have made the conscious decision to really succeed, Make More Monie will endeavor to provide you with plenty of real-world examples of individuals that have “made more monie”, and who are happy to share exactly how they did it. No throbbing music, no pounding of chests and no primal screaming. Only top-of-the-line ‘fun’ancial mentorship with bottom-line results!
