In this part of Make More Monie’s seven takes on The Seven Habits, I review habit six, which is to synergize with others. Covey states that synergy is, in fact, the highest activity in all life. Wait, what? Wasn’t it communication?
He then sermonizes about how synergy will realize a brave new world; one that will be less adversarial and more amicable, and less taking and more giving. Again this is nice to reflect upon, but in the real world, in the world of scarce resources and even scarcer willingness of those that have ‘em to share ‘em, this is not happening – ever. The sooner Make More Monie mentees realize this, the sooner they can synergize all right, but not with this idealistic and unrealistic end in mind, but with ‘fun’ancial success as the ultimate destination.
As I am, in fact, a synergist myself, and act as a catalyst via Make More Monie, I have great respect for the topic of diversity. It truly facilitates and ensures the whole is indeed greater than the sum of the parts and that the relationship that individual parts have to each other is a part in and of itself and acts as a catalyst.
The problem that many in today’s First World have, as mentioned in part five, is that most are hopelessly “self-unaware”. They selfishly want everyone to agree with them, so that all in their sphere are aligned, in effect, limiting who they align themselves with. What they don’t see is that there may be more than one way or type of people available to reach a ‘fun’ancially successful destination or outcome to a planned objective.
For example, I have opinions on “what’s what” out there in the First World – and Second and Third, for that matter – but I don’t highlight and promote only those ‘fun’ancially successful individuals via Make More Monie. Furthermore, I am not qualified or certified to practice IP law, nor am I skilled in navigating all of the challenges in keeping the Make More Monie mission, website and social media presence optimized, but I work with those that are, regardless of any differences – opinion wise or otherwise – we may have. I also acknowledge that, in these examples, I utilize the services of those that have those qualifications, certifications and skills not in the way that the book discusses – as peers working together on a common goal – but simply because I required their paid-for services in aid of my reaching my goal.
To reiterate, in working on an objective that requires more than just myself in achieving it – others outside of those that provide services that I can avail myself of by simply paying for them – I’m absolutely fine in doing it, regardless of whether or not their worldview was exactly like mine or not, within reason of course. I can easily do this because I understand that people don’t have to all be the same to be unified and they can all be individuals yet still be and act as one. Oh, and it goes without saying that I feel each and every one of my mentees should also do likewise!
Uniqueness in individuals forming a collective is actually a positive when seeking ‘fun’ancial success. Just as extreme selective breeding ultimately never ends well (as it is indeed possible to have too much of a good thing), differences in approaches enroute to a unified goal helps ensure safe and sound arrival there.
Remember, the words “all for one and one for all” never did and never will require a qualifier. It is implied that each of those contributing in solidarity toward a mission bring their own uniqueness to the fore, just as our mentees will benefit from the uniqueness of Make More Monie’s mentors!
