The seventh and last habit is about “sharpening the saw”, which, after struggling to successfully remain conscious through this tedious time waster, I found that it simply means strengthening and supplementing the greatest asset one has – themselves. I also find that no one with any amount of common sense needs to read this tome to know that each and every one of us function optimally when we incorporate a balanced program for ongoing regeneration and self improvement of the body and mind.
This can be facilitated through strength, cardio and cognitive exercise programs, including free weights, machines or body weight (where the body is the machine) training, running, cycling or stair scaling, all for the betterment of the body.
For the mind, one can continue improving upon their levels of competence in, say, from the basic three R’s of reading, ‘riting and ‘rithmetic all the way to understanding how to apply the three R’s terms of rapid, reliable and repeatable as they relate to binary CNC code generation.
To ensure these initiatives take, proper rest and recovery, not to mention adequate sustenance and supplements, are required and all of the above can be bolstered by various and sundry activities.
For many people, rest and recovery means a chance to compete in a triathlon or experience the quality cuisine, culture, music, nature or art – or the beauty of artifacts left behind long ago in one’s own or another country – expanding their horizons in any number of ways. For many others, “R & R” time provides an opportunity for more sedentary pursuits, such as reading and writing for pleasure, along with crossword, sudoku and/or jigsaw puzzles.
At Make More Monie, we counsel one and all to get out of the internet and into a net(work) of like-minded achievers, and if you are already surrounded by those that are, ahem, non-achievers, move on from ‘em. Rather than risking being caught up in a downward spiral, or, if you are unfortunately already in one, establish a positive helix/reverse the existing one by incorporating good practices and positive influences into one life, accordingly – immediately. We advise our mentees to set a positive rhythm and “bookend” their life’s days and nights, including weekends and holidays.
As one applies all of the above, they are able to build upon the previous day’s growth and upward momentum established. This increases one’s capacity to deal with all of the adversity that today’s First World generates for us all, and indeed from a position of power. Without this, the body becomes weak, the mind numb, one’s emotions out of control and one’s confidence diminished.
The book closes out with a spiritually-spun excerpt worthy of Chicken Soup for the Soul, on how “The Lord/Christ” works. These words introduce a section providing the essence of the book; where the “gap between stimulus and response” is explored, taking forever to state the obvious about how to communicate with others. Honestly, didn’t we all learn this in kindergarten?
My reward for getting through this mind-numbing waste of time was a personal note on Covey’s convictions, where he, of course, blends the natural with the supernatural, while claiming that his struggle in sharing over six hundred pages of pain was worthwhile and fulfilling. As he and his family have grifted from the gullible millions upon millions of dollars through this and all of the other published “works” these pages have spawned, I certainly have no doubts that it indeed has been both worthwhile and fulfilling.
Note: When you have made the conscious decision to really succeed, Make More Monie will endeavor to provide you with plenty of real-world examples of individuals that have “made more monie”, and who are happy to share exactly how they did it. No throbbing music, no pounding of chests and no primal screaming. Only top-of-the-line ‘fun’ancial mentorship with bottom-line results!
